What is God’s language and how can we learn it?

To understand the need to desire God’s language we will first take a look at some scriptures showing when God originally created mankind there was only one language everyone spoke.

And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. ~ Genesis 11:1 KJV

And the Lord came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do; and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. ~ Genesis 11:5-6 KJV

God created us to work together in unity. He also gave us the ability to imagine and if we work together there is nothing that we can’t accomplish when we are working as one. The people during this time wanted to build a tower to reach heaven and apparently it would have been possible because they were working together. So as a result the Lord mixed up the language. They couldn’t understand each other so they scattered all over the earth.

God never intended for us to not be able to communicate with Him. He has always wanted that fellowship with us. He spoke through prophets in the Old Testament that He would again unite His people with one language.

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent. ~ Zephaniah 3:9

Through the prophet Zephaniah, God was telling the people there would be a pure language that they may call upon the Lord and serve Him with unity or one accord. That prophetic word came to fulfillment in the book of Acts in chapter 2 when the disciples received power from the Lord Jesus through the Holy Spirit.

The Apostle Paul explained that this language will not be understood by men but only by God. When we speak God’s language we are actually speaking God’s mysteries into the air. We are speaking out God’s will for us. Even if we may not understand what we are saying God understands. He will make His word come to pass because it doesn’t return void or empty. It will accomplish what it was spoken out to do.

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. ~ 1 Corinthians 14:4

This unknown tongue or language that Paul is referring to is about praying in tongues. In the bible it is also known as “praying in the spirit”. The reason it is said this way is because through faith, we allow the Spirit of God to pray through us using our mouth and voice. We are, in that respect, completely in control. We are making the decision to pray. It isn’t some weird possession situation where you can’t control yourself. On the contrary, you decide how loud or how soft you want to speak God’s language (tongues) or when. If you don’t want to pray nothing is going to come out of your mouth. There will only be silence.

So the question asks “how can we learn it”? This language is not something you learn or can be taught. It is an individual and personal gift given from the Lord to those who want to receive it. It is received by faith through prayer for those who want to serve the Lord and commune with Him. It is only for believers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:13

If you want to receive the precious, personal language of God then all you have to do is ask him and you will receive in faith. Another reason to desire this prayer language is because when you pray you build your faith. We know that in this world we have many challenges and sometimes we don’t know what to pray for or how so this is an opportunity to allow the spirit inside you to pray God’s perfect will for your life.
