But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ~Matthew 6:33
This scripture has a very special place in my heart. On one particular morning a few years ago shortly after I began my walk with the Lord, I woke up sad and depressed due to some circumstances in my life. I remember hearing this scripture in my heart and then get angry and turn over in my bed to go back to sleep. I woke up two more times and heard the same thing. It peeked my curiosity because I distinctly heard it the three times I opened my eyes. Upon hearing it the last time, I decided to open my bible and find out if this truly was a scripture I was hearing.
I found the scripture in the book of Matthew. At first it made me think, “why did the Lord tell me this? Am I not seeking Him enough and going to church to learn who He is?” I thought, well if the Lord is telling me this then obviously I am not seeking Him enough. So I will make an adjustment and go to everything I can.
So I continued to go to church to hear the sermons on sundays and wednesdays and read my bible daily. I went to bible study on monday; on tuesdays I had my own ladies bible study at home; on fridays I went to a prayer night service at another church. My week was busy but I was receiving amazing revelations in the Word. I was not seeking Him to get anything from Him except knowledge of who He is.
As I searched to know the kingdom He blessed me tremendously. I began to notice that little things that I desired in my heart would somehow be given to me by someone else. This is when I began to know that the Lord knew my thoughts.
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. ~ Psalm 37:4
And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts and understandeth all the imagination of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever. ~ 1 Chronicles 28:9
I listed a few verses to show you that the Lord knows our thoughts and desires and he wants to fulfill them so that we may have joy. I know when I began to see His love manifest in this way I was blessed. My friend began to say that God loves me because she could see I received what my heart desired.
The image on the left shows one of the many gifts I received from the Lord when I seek Him with all my heart.
This gift began as a thought in my heart… I was sitting in a bible study class at church one day and thought that I should buy a pocket size bible for myself so I could carry it in my purse and have it to minister if I ever needed one. This class was on a wednesday so I thought that I could go buy it on the weekend. Well to my surprise when I went to work the next day, a co-worker came and handed everyone in the office a Gideon pocket size bible. This was exactly the size I was going to buy on the weekend. It put a smile on my face and I know it was a present from the Lord. I still carry this bible in my purse today and read it when I am waiting somewhere.
I hope to stir up your faith and encourage you to seek the kingdom first and the desires that you have in your heart will be taken care of. He knows them and He wants to bless you! You don’t even have to ask to receive them. He delights in seeing you happy so be patient and let Him love you.
