The Beginning of Wisdom

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. ~ Proverbs 9:10 KJV

Where does wisdom come from? According to this scripture, the beginning of wisdom comes from the fear of the Lord. This fear is not a person being afraid. What it is referring to is having respect for the Lord. He is our friend, yes; and he is our companion but he is also the creator of all things. There is no one above him. He is the almighty and we should always have the utmost reverence for him. Like I mentioned before, we should have respect for him.

What does the dictionary tell us about “knowledge”? It is defined as an acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation; general erudition. The dictionary tells us that through study we can have knowledge. This is true. The more we study the more we will have knowledge about particular subjects. But can we apply this same type of study for knowledge in the spirit realm? Not particularly.

The spirit realm is another dimension that can only be accessed through faith. Faith comes from the Lord. He has given every one of us “the” measure of faith. Someone doesn’t have more than another person but one person may exercise it more than the next. When you spend time with Jesus you gain knowledge and understanding. He has insights into things you cannot gain through study alone. It is a combination of fellowship with him and reading the Word of God.

If you have accepted Jesus as your savior you are “Holy” in the eyes of God. As you seek to know more about his Word you are holy and gain understanding through this fellowship. He is an amazing teacher. Ask him questions about the Bible and he will gladly give you the spiritual understanding that you need and it will amaze you.
