I felt led to write this because I believe the church is being misled on what the word tribulation means in the Book of Revelation and therefore has caused a division of theology regarding the Lord’s second coming.
If we look up the word “tribulation” in the Strong’s dictionary the Greek word for tribulation is “thlîpsis”. It defines the word as pressure or affliction, distress, anguish, persecution, trouble. There are several instances in the Bible where Jesus spoke about tribulation and persecution.
For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Matthew 24:21 KJV
If you substitute the word tribulation for persecution it fits because the church, the followers of Christ, has always been persecuted to some extent or another. The only difference is we will see it more intense in the end times. As the Lord Jesus stated, it has not been this bad since the beginning nor will it ever be comparible.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. John 16:33 KJV
Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Acts 14:22 KJV
Jesus taught the disciples that they would have tribulation which means persecution, affliction and all the other synonyms used to define it. It only makes sense our world would turn very dark before the Lord’s return. There will be a time of great persecution for the church when the one world government is established. The church needs to be strong and their faith grounded in the Lord Jesus. This is not to frighten you but to stir you up to be prepared for what is coming. Now is the time to be strengthened in the Lord when you still have some peace. It is always easier to build your faith when you are not faced with constant challenges. Be strong but do not fear! No matter what happens, the Lord is with you.
