The Abomination in the Temple

The Abomination in the Temple

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. Daniel 12:11 KJV

In today’s post we will be expanding on more clues regarding the Lord’s return. Recently, we published a post titled “No One Knows The Hour“. We reviewed several scriptures found in the book of Matthew 24 and Luke 21. Today, we will review more scriptures in the Old Testament that give us clues to the Lord’s return. You, like many other followers and believers in Christ, may be curious as to His return. It is an exciting and fearful time all at once.

As we read and study the passage above from the prophet Daniel, we are given a number. What does this number mean? We are told the number is 1290 days. The prophet Daniel tells us that it takes 1290 days for the antichrist to set up his abomination. Apparently, it takes about 3.5 years for the antichrist to get himself set up to commit his abomination. So what is an abomination in reference to this passage?

The online dictionary defines an abomination as something regarded with disgust or hatred. It is something that will stun the world and be disgusting in the eyes of God. According to scriptures, God is a jealous God. He is also jealous for you because He loves you.

For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Exodus 34:14 KJV

In the end times, someone under the influence of the spirit of the antichrist will put himself in a place to be exalted as god. We are familiar with another who tried to do this in ancient times, as well. He is known as Satan. He was first known as the angel of light, Lucifer, until he wanted to replace God and overthrow Him from heaven. There was a battle and Satan was cast out of heaven on to earth. This battle event is found in Revelation 12.

Satan is also known and referred to as the “god” of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:4) Satan has always wanted to be god so he will do everything he can to achieve this status. The only difference is, this time, he will attempt this position on earth in Israel, instead of heaven. He will be given the opportunity this time but once more, he will be removed. When the Lord returns He will bind Satan and put him in a prison for a 1000 years.

Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days. Daniel 12:12 KJV

Even when there is an abomination set up in Jerusalem the prophet Daniel spoke a passage that should encourage us. There is a timeframe Daniel is pointing to that people of the faith will be blessed. Between 1290 days and 1335 there are 45 days. During these 45 days, it would very well appear to the inhabitants of the earth that the antichrist has succeeded in declaring himself god in the temple at Jerusalem.

* The Two Witnesses *

During the period of 3.5 years, as the antichrist is preparing his ultimate take over, there will be 2 witnesses of God showing signs and judgment to anyone who does not believe. These two witnesses will be killed and they will lie in the streets of Jerusalem for 3 days. After those 3 days pass the 2 witnesses will resurrect and are called to heaven in front of everyone. Can you imagine the looks people will have on their faces when they see them come to life again? It will be so miraculous!

In the meantime, on earth, it is possible that the antichrist will enjoy his position for about 45 days. Once that time is up, Jesus and His army of saints will descend to bring wrath and judgment and the Lord Jesus will destroy the enemies who dare to desecrate the temple of God. (see Revelation 19)

There are a few times in the Bible when a resurrection occurs, judgment follows. It would appear the judgment would fall right about in this timeframe of 45 days after the witnesses resurrect. The Bible is like a puzzle and often time the details of certain prophetic events are scattered throughout other books of the Bible. This scripture that Daniel speaks of in 12:12 could very well be a gem that reveals when the Lord returns.

And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever. Revelation 11:15 KJV

According to the Word of God, this passage in Revelation shows us the 7th trumpet is sounded. If the trumpet blows this mean the church and Israel has been taken or “raptured” to heaven. If you continue to read the rest of Revelation 11 you will see the last verse speaks of an earthquake, lightening and great hail. This hail will also be mixed with fire and is the event that destroys much of the city. It will also kill 7000 men in an instant. Amen!

Hopefully this post can bring some insight in to the mysteries of God. Please mediate on these passages and ask the Holy Spirit to bring clarity. We pray this post will bless and encourage you for His return. Look up because your redemption draws near! Hallelujah!
