This Generation Shall Not Pass Away
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Matthew 24:34 KJV
Today, we would like to go more in depth on this passage which symbolically refers to Israel and the end times. In our observation of the comments we read and the lack of knowledge regarding the parable of the fig tree, we would like to expand on this a little more. Many brothers and sisters in Christ do not seem to recognize the meaning of the parable and how it points to the return of our Lord Jesus Christ. In this post, we will review some scriptures that may bring light to the message Jesus was giving when He spoke this parable.
Let us begin by looking at what the Bible calls a “generation”. A generation has typically been recognized as 70 years.
The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10 KJV
The passage states “threescore”, which means 60 years plus 10 years is 70. And if by reason of strength a generation stretches to 80 years.
In the parable of the fig tree, Jesus mentions this generation shall not pass until all these things be fulfilled. If we look at the context of what the parable was referring to we can see that once Israel becomes a nation there will be a lot of other signs to witness. Israel became a nation again on May 14, 1948. If you count 70 years from that date, we are looking exactly at this present decade. In this year 2023, it is now 75 years since this major event occurred with the nation of Israel. We are in the middle of the decade. There are definitely many signs and events that have been fulfilled. If you would like to read more on this you can view a recent post titled “No Man Knows the Hour”. We have listed some of the fulfilled prophetic events mentioned in the book of Luke 21.
It is not a coincidence that we are seeing the world rise up against Israel with hate. Anti-semitism will rise in the next few years. These participants are the children of Hagar, the handmaiden/servant of Sarah from the Old Testament.
Jesus was teaching the disciples that the generation that witnessed the formation of Israel as a nation would not pass away before seeing all the other prophetic events occur. We, as children of faith and followers of Christ, need to realize we are also seeing these prophesies fulfilled. Our Lord is letting us know through scripture that His return will occur soon. It may very well be within this decade. Please share this good news and encourage your brothers and sisters!
P.S. – Isn’t it interesting the last part of the scripture says “it is soon cut off and we fly away”? I have not seen this before but could this also be a connection to when the church and Israel “fly” away. We will just have to patiently wait!
