In times of war when enemy lines were created God has been there helping His people overcome the enemy. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. In the troubling times we face these days He is still on our side helping us to stand our ground and defeat the plans of the enemy. Let’s see how the enemy of Israel reacted when the Lord was intercepting each plan.
* The War *
Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. 9) And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down. 10) And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice. 11) Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel? 12) And one of his servants said, None, my lord, O king: but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber. 2 Kings 6:8-12 KJV
The prophet Elisha would tell the King of Israel the plans the Syrian king had devised. One thing, among many, which makes me smile is that we have insight through the Lord. In the Old Testament the Lord used prophets to speak to His people but in the New Testament we have our personal spy. He goes with us wherever we go. He is called the “Holy Spirit”. He teaches us, he reveals things to us and helps us know things that only God would know. He is our helper.
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. John 16:13 KJV
He shows us things to come. This means events which have not happened are shown to us to help us avoid danger or to prepare ourselves so it is not a surprise when we face certain challenges.
* The Same Lord *
The Lord is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is still the one who reveals the plans of our enemy. Our job is to stay connected to Him so that we can hear these words that help us escape captivity. So what happened after the prophet exposed the plan?
And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. 14) Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. 15) And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? 2 Kings 6:13-15 KJV
It seemed that Israel was now surrounded by the enemy and the situation was hopeless. There were many chariots and a great army surrounding the city.
16) And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17) And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. 18) And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the Lord, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. 19) And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. But he led them to Samaria. 2 Kings 6:13-19 KJV
The servant saw a hopeless situation and possibly felt they were defeated. But the prophet Elisha was calm and told him there were more with them than the enemy. He prayed the Lord would open his eyes and suddenly the servant could see into the spirit realm the chariots and horses that were with Israel were more. He then led the blind Syrians to be captive in Samaria. They were later let go to return home defeated.
* Revealing Plans Continue *
The Lord is still revealing the plan of the enemy to his people. He helps them see clearly so they will not fall in to the trap. Are you staying connected to the voice of the Lord? It is time to be one with Him. Don’t be left out saying you did not know! That is an awful place to be if you have the Holy Spirit with you.
And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. Matthew 24:12 KJV
Why do you think the love of many shall wax cold? Not only will iniquity abound but because the prophets will speak only good things that people want to hear, false hope and do not reveal the plans that can entrap many. They will be angry and will loose faith in God because they will feel deceived from the house of God.
But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 1 Corinthians 14:3 KJV
We live in a time of heavy spiritual battles. We must be strong in the faith and wise in the things we see happening today. We should already know the promises of God for us in the word. Those are our words of edification, exhortation and comfort. They have not changed. They are written down for us to grab on to when we face adversity. The church should not be acting like little babes who need only milk. We need to put our big boy pants on and face the enemy with wisdom knowing the Lord is backing us. All of heaven is backing us! We need to be strong to hear truth and not be moved by fear.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7 KJV
If you feel fear rise up remember the enemy has no power over you. Fight it with God’s word. Speak it and take control! You have not been given the spirit of fear!
